Inflammatory diseases refer to conditions that involve inflammation, which is a natural immune response to injury or infection. Inflammation involves redness, swelling, heat and pain as part of the body's attempt to heal itself by increasing blood flow to an area and recruiting white blood cells to fight off bacteria and other foreign substances. However, when inflammation becomes chronic or excessive it can lead to various health problems such as arthritis, asthma, allergies, autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Crohn's disease among others. These conditions are characterized by an overactive immune response that causes damage to the body's own tissues.
